JOB SUMMARY
 
Camp Hapitok is a residential summer camp for 6 to 11 year old children with communication disorders who live in San Luis Obispo County. The Secretary will perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing, and duplicating materials. The Secretary will be able to operate standard office equipment including a computer and know how to use Microsoft office programs. The Secretary will answer the phone and make phone calls with appropriate phone etiquette. Perform other related duties as assigned.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Required:
1. A high school diploma.
2. Experience working as a secretary.
 
Desirable:
1. Able to speak Spanish fluently and translate documents from English to Spanish.
2. Some experience working with children in a camp situation.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
 
1. Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing, and duplicating materials.
2. Operate standard office equipment including a computer.
3. Know how to use basic Microsoft office programs (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
4. Answer phone and make phone calls with appropriate phone etiquette.
5. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others.
6. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
7. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
8. Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
9. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
10. Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward special education students.
11. Observe health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
1. Use a computer including Microsoft office programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.), the internet, and email.
2. Use the phone to answer phone calls and make phone calls using appropriate phone etiquette.
3. Operate standard office equipment.
4. Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing, and duplicating materials.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
1. Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and take notes.
2. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment.
3. Sitting for extended periods of time.
4. Seeing to read a variety of materials and work at a computer for an extended period of time.
5. Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
6. Physical agility to lift 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.
7. Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate, neat, and timely fashion; to make good judgments and decisions; and to evaluate the results of decisions and judgments.
8. Facility to drive a car.
